Frequently Asked Questions
What is the weather like that time of year?
Charleston is beautiful any time of year. Be prepared for temperatures in the sixties, perhaps even seventy. Please check the weather before leaving home.
What should I wear?
Streets and sidewalks are often uneven because they are slate, brick, or cobblestone so wear comfortable walking shoes. High heels are not permitted because of damage to the owners’ floors. Also, please no backpacks, coolers, or strollers.
May I take photographs?
Because these are private residences, no photographs are allowed.
Are these the same types of houses that are on the other fall and spring tours in Charleston?
Yes, these are historic, downtown houses and some are the same houses on other tours. Homeowners graciously open their homes to help fundraising efforts. The tours of The Garden Club of Charleston are unique in that each home features numerous flower arrangements designed by its talented members.
How many homes and gardens are on the tours?
There are usually at least six stops on each tour.
Are the homes handicapped accessible?
Since these historic homes are private residences, they are not handicapped accessible.
Are pets and children allowed on the tours?
Sorry, but pets are not allowed nor are children under 12. The tours are difficult for children. The walk may be long, and there are no public restrooms available.
Are the tours different on Friday and Saturday?
Yes, the two tours are completely different. Both will be in distinctive sections of historic, downtown Charleston.
Do guides lead the tours from garden to garden?
No, it is a self-guided tour. A map will be on the ticket.
Is there a phone number or e-mail address if I have any other questions?
Yes, call 843-724-9349 and leave a message or e-mail: advancetickets@thegardenclubofcharleston.org You will receive a response as soon as possible.
